Notes

  • He became a Barrister.
Mr. and Mrs. Woollett, whose marriage took place in 1844, were both born on the 11th August, 1820, and by a still more curious coincidence their first child, Sidney, came into the world on the 11th August, 1845

John Woollett was admitted to the Bar on the 22nd November, 1844, and attended the South Eastern Circuit, Hertford and Essex Sessions. His practice from the first lay in the Criminal Courts. Indeed, the late Sir Henry Hawkins (Lord Brampton) in his well-known "Reminiscences," which contain several friendly references to Woollett, in one place expressly refers to him as "a Sessions man."

1861 London Directory: John Woolett (Barrister) of 5, Brick Court, Temple E.C. Residence - Manor House, O. Kent Road. SE. Home circuit Chelmsford, Colchester and Middlesex. (Joan Durrant) Birthplace shown as "Plumstead, Kent".

1871 census living in Elm Cottage, Tottenham Lane, Hornsey, London.  His birthplace is shown as Plumstead, Kent. With him is his wife Amelia and children Annie (20), Theresa (12), Josephine (10) and Ralph (5).

1851 census John "Wolett" and his wife Amelia "Woollett" are visitors at the home of George Phillipson in Kingston Upon Thames, London.  No children are present.  I am not sure where the children are at this time.
