    Dear Les,

I have no connection to Charlotte Woollett other than I am researching my family history and she married into the Chamerovzows who married into my family line.

The Chamerovzows are an interesting family.  The father Ivan Alexis was a musician in the court of the Prince Regent in Brighton, having come there via his birthplace Russia (born February 2, 1774 in Moscow) where he was "Count Chamerovzow" and then on to Paris where he married Agathe Cecile Constance Emelie Dackweiller whose brother Pierre Honore Dackweiller (member of the Legion of Honour) was with Napoleon at most of the major battles.  Louis Alexis Chamerovzow (1816- November 14, 1875) was their only son and he became involved in the anti-slavery movement.  He was also an author and publisher.  Some of the books by L A Chamerovzow include:-The First Foot In The House, The Chronicles of the Bastile, La Bertaudiere, Philip of Lutetia, The Embassy, The Yule Log, The Man of Destiny.

His mother, widowed in 1820, is rumored to have been a housekeeper at Dalkeith Palace and we have substantial circumstantial evidence to substantiate this.  So the family was well connected.

In 1866, Louis Alexis Chamerovzow was the Secretary of the Anti-Slavery Society, and was one of the leaders of the British anti-slavery movement. When he learned of Gordon's death, he and his colleagues in England formed the Jamaica Committee to protest the Governor's actions and demand an investigation. The members of the Jamaica Committee included a host of worthies including Charles Darwin and T. H. Huxley. As head, the members unanimously chose John Stuart Mill.

Charlotte Woollett marriage to Louis A Chamerovzow:
30.05.1842 Marriage of Louis Alexis Chamerovzow, full age, bachelor, gentleman of 5b or 56 Stamford Street, father Alexis Chamerovzow, professor of music, to Charlotte Woollett, spinster, same address, father James Hope Woollett, gentleman. Witnessed by John James Bowring and Eleanor Darke. Married Parish Church, Christchurch, Surrey in the registration district of St Saviour.

As you can see, her father's name appears as James Hope Woollett which is in your data base as having married in 1816, while she appears to have been born about 1812.  The only reason I was pursuing the Somerset House birthplace for Charlotte was because of information in the 1881 census where she is shown as:
Lodger   W   Female   69   born Somerset Ho, Middlesex, England   Annuitant

My understanding is that Somerset House was rebuilt c 1775 - 1786 to house government offices and the Royal Academy of the Arts.  I did find a reference on the web to someone else who claimed to have been born in Somerset House and the article mentioned that his father was employed there and had a suite of rooms.  Also another person who "was born at Somerset House, in the apartments of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1841."  I at first thought it was unlikely she was born there but thought, after finding two who had been born there, that there might be a connection through the arts.  Hence my query about William Woollett.

If you have any further comments, questions, I will be happy to hear from you.

    Cheers,

    Dianne Scoles
